Your child's IEP, along with the National Core Content Curriculum Standards guide me in my daily planning and teaching. That being said, here are the specific educational materials your child will be using this year in the Resource Center:
READING ~ We will be using the textbook Read For Real. This series stresses strategies for reading and understanding non-fiction pieces. We will also be reading novels marking periods 2-4. For vocabulary development, we will be using the textbook Word Wisdom.
SPELLING ~ The series we use is Working Words In Spelling. I will be stressing the consistent carry-over of spelling skills to all written work.
WRITING ~ Using the textbook Strategies For Writers, we will cover sentence structure, writing mechanics, and proper grammar useage. Students will apply these skills in writing different pieces: personal narratives, cause-effect, business and friendly letters, opinion papers, persuasive and expository writing.
SOCIAL STUDIES ~ 7th and 8th grade students will be using the text American Journey, covering the period from Mesoamerica to the end of the Civil War.
SCIENCE ~ 7th and 8th grade students will be receiving instruction covering four main topics: basic chemistry, electricity and magnetism, motion, forces and energy, and sound and light. We will be using materials and texts from Prentice Hall publishers.
You can go to the NJ Department of Education website for specific standards for Science and Social Studies.
